About this cigar

Vigía is named for the watchtowers in the Cuban city of Trinidad erected to observe the sugarcane fields.

Trinidad is named after the beautiful 16th Century city of La Santisima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, which is situated on Cuba's south coast.

Trinidad, as a Habano brand, dates back to 1969 but for many years, like Cohiba, it was made only for gifts to foreign diplomats. Not until 1998 was it released for general sale and then only in small quantities.

At the start there was only one size of Trinidad: Fundadores. In 2003 three more sizes, the Reyes, the Coloniales and the Robusto Extra, were added to the range. At the same time Trinidad's livery and its cigar band were updated to recognise the prestige that the brand commanded. Most recently, in 2009, the Trinidad Robusto T was introduced to complement the brand's range.

For several years Trinidad was made at El Laguito, the Cohiba factory, where its uniquely fragrant and aromatic, medium flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone was developed.

Trinidad is one of the anomalies within Cuba's collection of cigar brands. It started as a commercially unavailable cigar reserved for diplomats and dignitaries. Once the brand was released to the public in 1998, it came in one long, thin size called Fundadores. Then the brand expanded by adding a few more vitolas, only to contract afterward by deleting sizes in 2012.

Trinidad's newest addition, the Vigía is the exact opposite of the Fundadores. Rather than being long and slender, this cigar is short and squat. While it maintains Trinidad's signature pigtail cap, its heavy ring gauge offers an abundant smoke, lush with earthy truffle notes, oakiness and a warm nutty finish. Vigía is named for the watchtowers in the Cuban city of Trinidad erected to observe the sugarcane fields.

Questions we get asked

Provenance, packing and storage, answered plainly.

Is this box genuine English Market Selection stock?

Yes. Our Trinidad cigars come through Hunters and Frankau, the official UK importer for Habanos S.A. Every box carries the green EMS stamp, and UK duty and VAT are already paid.

How will it be packed?

It goes out in a sealed pouch with a free Boveda 69% humidity pack, which holds the cigars at roughly 65 to 70% humidity while they are in transit. We ship Royal Mail Tracked 24, or Special Delivery if you would rather.

How should I store it once it arrives?

Keep it in a humidor or an airtight box with a 65% or 69% Boveda pack, somewhere around 18 to 20°C. British houses get very dry in winter once the heating goes on, so a sealed container makes a real difference.
